The Kennet & Avon Canal is managed by British Waterways. Their corporate site provides details of their operations whilst Waterscape provides details of the K & A and other waterways in Britain. This site contains complete mapping of the waterway system managed by BW together with the latest details of any matters affecting navigation.
The Environment Agency is the navigation authority for the River Thames. The River Thames Alliance and Thames River Guide provide details of attractions and services along the River Thames.
The western end of the Kennet & Avon Canal links to Bristol Harbour and then to the tidal River Avon and the Severn estuary.

The Kennet & Avon Canal has a long history. In the 1950’s it was largely derelict and threatened with closure. The Kennet & Avon Canal Trust has been the main force campaigning for its restoration and providing voluntary workers and fundraising on a massive scale. It's continuing work to safeguard the canal is worthy of your support.
Commercial enterprises along the Kennet & Avon Canal are represented by the K & A Trade Association. . Their Directory of Services provides details of the services offered by their members and the opportunities available for boaters, canoers, walkers, cyclists, anglers, birdwatchers and anyone interested in the canal and its environs.
The Kennet & Avon Canal has become the prime example of successful waterway restoration. Waterway restoration is now proceeding at an increasing pace. The Waterways Trust is now supporting several major projects for completion over the next 10 years. Voluntary effort of a practical nature in support of waterway restoration is lead by the Waterway Recovery Group which is part of the Inland Waterways Association the national campaign organisation for waterway protection and restoration.
The future enhancement of the Kennet & Avon Canal is linked to future restoration of the Cotswold Canals. Restoration work is ongoing to provide a link from the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal through Stroud  to Brimsdown with the ultimate aim of restoring the link with the River Thames and the Kennet & Avon Canal via a restored North Wilts Canal and Wilts & Berks Canal. Progress with this restoration is supported by the Wilts & Berks Canal Trust.
The Kennet & Avon Canal between Reading and Bristol passes through West Berkshire, Wiltshire and Bath who all provide information about their localities and the activities and facilities available.
Many parts of the Kennet & Avon Canal are readily accessible by public transport, both road and rail. Bus service information is provided by Reading Transport, Connect 2 Wiltshire and the First Group Berkshire & Thames Valley or First Group Bristol and West . Rail service information can be obtained from First Great Western.
